Our Threads are Tellers of Us at this Stitch in Time
Stories thread through our lives. They touch, connect, and hold us as we entangle yarns with needles and hooks. As I look back on decades of gathering, collaborating, and making, I’m remembering all the brave and thoughtful craftivists who’ve shared stories. I carry you with me into this moment of looking back and listening. As I open my craftivism archive, wisdoms emerge, stitched into the fabric of us.
In this ongoing collection of craftivism stories, slow-made meets fast-paced while navigating real-life and virtual realities. The tension at the confluence of analogue and digital fuels narratives embodied with human touch, collective memory, materiality, and digitality.
As a living archive, Our Threads are Tellers of Us at this Stitch in Time, connects craftivism and digital art amidst the pervasive presence of artificial intelligence.
Accompanied by hooks, needles, fibre threads, and pixels, this ongoing collection is a hybrid of crochet, knit, embroidery, and digitality. Every thread holds form, meaning, and story.
All these stories preserve our humanness through retrospectives informing our present and future. Lived experiences are valued, and human-authored still holds genuine emotion. All humans still matter, not only the humans who generate prompts.
As tellers, these stories explore who we are while AI mirrors us back to ourselves. Our handmade fabrics are witnesses too holding our grief, protest, joy, and solidarity.
Each narrative is reflected upon from my perspective as a participant observer acknowledging multiple co-created viewpoints within our communities.
Some are good news stories amidst a world in chaos. Others bring awareness to the unvoiced by addressing gender-based violence and environmental crisis. All are tellers of us at this stitch in time.
