CURIOUS?

“Why a.k.a. Curious Sleuth? I’m no Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot or Nancy Drew. Yet, these fictional detectives have a penchant for sleuthing just like I do. Besides being a curious sleuth at (he)art, exploring interestingness is my side gig. Curious Sleuth is my tagger moniker as a yarn graffiti artist (which began undercover, inspired by Banksy!) It describes me better than any professional title in my bio.”

Stacey a.k.a. Curious Sleuth

Stacey Rozen is a story-threader, craftivist and yarn graffiti artist. Her creative practice engages a transdisciplinary approach at the confluence of storytelling and craftivism. Her subversive crochet hook opposes conventional fibre handcrafting traditions by amplifying yarns of thread and story as catalysts for gentle activism, meaningful dialogue, and collective healing. As a craftivism facilitator and socially engaged artist for over fifteen years, her collaborative activations are community-driven focussing on gender-based violence, climate change, societal scarcity, and global conflicts.

She advocates for a Yarn Balm rEVOLution as a movement towards embodied reparation. Stacey’s tagger moniker as a yarn graffiti artist is Curious Sleuth. She has installed immersive craftivism installations worldwide. Our Yarns are Tellers of Us is her ongoing collection of anecdotal narratives reflecting on lived experiences at this stitch in time.

Stacey researched the role of a craftivism facilitator in a South African context for a Master of Arts degree in applied drama at the University of Witwatersrand, graduating in 2019 cum laude. Her case study focused on Story Scarves, a craftivism project for vulnerable teen girls in a marginalised community in Soweto. Her portfolio as a graphic designer and creative writer informs her craftivism practice. She recently completed her concept note on the synergy between Generative AI and Craftivism in the Preparing for Doctoral Study course.
